#TeacherQuarantine Day #1

Truth is, I didn’t write a post on Day 1. I posted the following last Friday, on Facebook, when I learned schools would be close for a couple weeks.

Since last Friday, I’ve been soaking in the gravity of what mass closures will look like on my family. My community.
I’m a natural skeptic, and just a week before that Friday FB post, I shared the following:

Well, don’t I feel dumb. We’ll most certainly be talking about all this in a year. Fact is, I was sick of hearing about another disaster coming for us and I distanced myself from the news reports. There’s been a lot of wolves crying through the years. School closures awakened me to the imminence of the threat and, for that, I am thankful. These days, I’m not only practicing social distancing, but also media-distancing. This is a time for humans to connect to one another using the technological tools we have. We need to make efforts to communicate clearly with one another and stay away from the 24 hour news cycle. We need to figure out the issues as they arise and enjoy our lives with what we have.
Now, I do believe we will get all of this under control. We’re beginning to see strong leadership coming from the local levels and that has been very encouraging.
I’m not sure how this all plays out, but I am confident it will.
Communities, together, are able to accomplish what big governments were never equipped to manage. Individual people.
Let’s all care for one another well.
